The much awaited event in the city’s calendar- The Annual Book Exhibition of Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School commenced on Friday, 16th Sept and concluded on Sunday, 18th Sept. Keeping this maxim in mind, the school started this 35 years ago when Thane did not even boast of a good book store. This was averred by Mrs. Revathi Srinivasan before she introduced Mrs. Nawaz Modi Singhania, the chief guest for the inaugural program. In her welcome note, Priyanka .V expressed her delight in inviting Mrs. Singhania, a discerning to the readers’ feast. She also noted that is Mrs. Revathi Srinivasan’s penchant for value addition to every event of our school that saw the release of the in-house publication, ‘Global Tales’ a collection of folktales from across the globe, at the hands of the chief guest.

The students of Yamuna house highlighted their concern for cleanliness in ‘Fight Filth- a social awareness campaign’ through mime. Another highlight of the morning’s program was the one-Act play, ‘The Exchange Program’ inspired by Tagore’s short story that won the jury’s acclaim at the National One-Act play competition organized at Kolkata jointly by the British Council Library and the Central School of Speech and Drama, London. Even Mrs. Singhania applauded their performance and in particular the resourcefulness of Ruth Mathen. The play ponders on the human nature that contemplates grass is always greener on the other side till the realization dawns that relationships ordained by God must be cherished and not changed. In the folk dance, ‘Pahadi Euphoria’, the students exulted in the celebration of holy. The Chinese dance, ‘Thousand Hands’, a Vindhya house presentation gracefully brought out the balance of life through symmetry.

Mrs. Nawaz Modi Singhania, in her address to the students, advised them that belief in oneself and courage will take them far towards the realization of their goals. In the course of fielding a particular question as to how does she discipline her 5-year old angelic daughter, she said that a reminder for a trip to Dharavi, Asia’s biggest slum, is a strong deterrent enough. While delivering the vote of thanks, Sneha Iyer thanked Mrs. Singhania for being an integral member of the Sulonia family and displaying a commitment to the school through her gracious presence.
