Car Pool Campaign 2009-2010 ...
A Socializing Adjunct to the Educational Experience!
The 3rd Graders of Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School Vouch On The Same!
As a part of the educational project, Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School initiated the Car Pool program to abreast the students with the measures of how to ease traffic and work toward the goal of a sustainable and green campus.
The 3rd graders were to work on this project as a part of their Environment lesson. The moment the project was announced these young minds began suggesting and bringing out several remedies, but one conspicuous fact they noticed was the traffic congestion in the city. They then decided "carpooling", was the best solution to the said issue. The students under the enthusiastic guidance of their teachers were all set to initiate the project.
What is Car Pool ?
Car Pool is nothing but to locate others in the neighbourhood who are interested in sharing their commute in a carpool or share a ride. By doing so one not only saves money on parking, petrol, besides advantages like reducing driving stress and travel time are also to be noted.
The Project Process
On 21st December, the message was sent across to all students and school staff, followed by school wide posters and banners, write up on the same in the school's newsletter "The Dhira" and on the school's website. This was further followed by an e-poll on the school's site. The students in their zest and zeal promoted the program through various modes of communication viz. street plays, presentations, distributing badges to all the fellow students and staff.
And the efforts of the students, their conviction in spreading the word across actually worked.
22nd December, was a noticeable day, as there was a smooth flow of cars driving into the school, parked with 3-4 children together from one neighbourhood in most of the cars. There was less congestion and parents were able to drop children and drive out of school earlier than usual. They truly appreciated that effort, as many parents were able to reach their offices early too. The students also responded their appreciation and thanked the parents for their cooperation by distributing "car pool stickers" as giveaways.
"Carpools should be resurrected. While we may not see why now, in the long run, our Earth will thank us. It's a safe, secure way for parents to escort their wards to school. Ultimately, I think it builds community because people get to know each other." said Mrs. Revathi Srinivasan, the Principal of the school.
At the end of the project , the efforts of young Sulonians seem to make a change which they hope will be propogated across society, and on the long run, attain their ultimate goal of a safe and green earth for everyone.
"On the car pool day I was relieved to hear the less honking. There was less traffic and traffic was moving freely." These were the words of Mithil Chaudhary from Std.3.
Chinmayee Sawant of Std 3 was more meticulous in saying "I learned that if we do car pooling the air will not get polluted, the air will not get polluted and there will be less cars on the road and the fuel will be saved.
Many children that carpooling was great fun as they were able to interact with their friends, schoolmates on the way to school!
On an ending note its nice to reiterate on the students Car Pool Slogan
"Roads Go Cool As Sulonians Initiate Car Pool"!
At the end, Request to all Parents:
Kindly help and co-operate to make the students' car pool campaign more successful by taking the following measures:
