Dil Chahta Hai (A Musical Rendition) ...

The rain soaked evening of 27th August, 2011, heard the ‘Malhar’ hall reverberate with the harmonious blend of soulful melody and rhythmic beats as the cultural committee organized ‘Dil Chahata Hai- A Musical Rendition’. The special invitees to the programme were the spouses of the teachers while Mrs.Ujwala Singhania graciously presided over the programme. The audience was welcomed in the traditional manner by the reception committee to the specially decorated venue and served hot pakodas and tea.

Mrs. Jayashree Prabhu, Head, Cultural department introduced the artists of the evening in her inimitable style. She explained the need for a refreshing break from the routine as also to reaffirm the bonds of love and togetherness in the Sulonia family. The entire programme was ably supported by Mr. Ram Dixit on the harmonium, Mrs.Aradhana Shahane on the key-board, Mr.Anshuman Gadre on the tabla and Mr.Manish Narvekar on the drums. The lyrical numbers were very ably and humorously strung together by the glamorous comperes for the evening - Mrs.Sangeeta Londhe and Mr.Sanjay Singh.

Mr.Dixit heralded the programme with a bandish that expressed Radha’s pining for Lord Krishna , “Shyam na aye,dil hai suna.” The duo of Mrs.Sonali Dhapre and Mrs.Dipti Joshi presented in quick succession , “suniyo ji araj hamar”, “kaise jaoon yamuna ke teer”, “saiyan dil me ana re” and “dil tarap tarap ke keh raha….” the evergreen Salil Chaudhary ditty. Dixit Sir’s ‘mera dil machal gaya to mera kya kasoor hai’evoked romantic sentiments. A pleasant surprise was sprung by Mrs. Gladys Cabral as she took centre stage to depict the heart of a mother in ‘Mother of mine’ and the spirit with which she sang was appreciated by all. Many of the solo renditions by Mr. Bhalkar, Mrs. Lata, Mrs. Jaya, Mrs. Helen, Mrs. Meenaxi Sunder, Mrs. Madhura Gokhale, Mrs.Uma and Mrs. Nilakshi earned an ‘encore’ from the audience and the youngsters among them could not restrain from taking to the dance floor. Mr.Anshuman Gadre lent a dramatic touch with ‘sar jo tera chakraye ya dil….’ and ‘mere umar ke naujawano…’.Mr. Manish Narvekar regaled everyone with the popular Kishore Kumar song ‘samne yeh kaun aaya…’ and ‘chup gaye saare nazaare’ in duet with Vedashree. The evening ended on a medley of songs filmed on Shammi Kapoor led by the spouses Mr.Girish Gokhale and Mr.Chetan Londhe.

While thanking all the members of the staff who rose to the occasion to make the programme a thumping success, Mrs. Revathi Srinivasan appealed to recognize and acknowledge the horde of talent that lies within the Sulonia family and the massive support lent by the family at home for our School to retain its invincible reputation. A sumptuous dinner followed.
